High Waisted Flare Jeans: 70’s Style Reborn
I remember so distinctly when flare jeans were popular in the 90’s. My mom wouldn’t buy me a pair from the Gap, even though I wanted them so badly. She told me that it was just a fad. Soon my mother was right and this trend went the way of TRL. My desire for flare jeans quickly faded. And along the way, I convinced myself that this silhouette wouldn’t look good on my petite frame regardless.
Fast forward to today and flare jeans are back in fashion, along with all things 70’s. I feel like it’s finally my time to rock a pair. Though I admit that some of my reservations about my ability to pull them off as a petite lady remained, I’m glad I gave this look a try! I would even venture to say I think they are very flattering. Here are some style tips I discovered:
- A high-waist help to elongate your legs, which is always appreciated. I suggest always looking for a high-waist when buying flared-leg jeans. The extra high-waist on this Alice + Olivia pair goes past my belly button!
- Heels are a must when you are a petite, but especially when pulling off this cut of jeans. Every inch counts! Not only will this lengthen the lines of your body, but it keeps this fun 70’s style feeling polished and sophisticated.
- The addition of the moto jacket also helps to elevate the look by playing with proportions. The end result is a look that fashionably embodies the vibe of the 70’s without feeling like a costume.
High waisted flare jeans are likely to be everywhere this year. I hope this post inspires you to make this vintage style new again with a little thoughtful styling.
