Little White Dress: Little Piece of Italy
I suppose it follows that a Naples, Florida girl would have a certain soft spot for Italy, given that natural “Naples” connection. The ties are especially strong for me, since I spent two years studying abroad in my hometown’s European namesake. I was just sixteen when I arrived, so all things Italian tend to make me feel right at home. Granted, Florida and Italy are worlds apart, but if you know where to look, there are quite a few little pockets of Italian inspiration here in the Sunshine State. At the top of this list is Campiello, a definite must-see, (or, shall I say, must-eat?!) dining destination when in town. So I decided to head down there in this little white dress. Not to mention the food—my photographer, Faith, kept on raving about the smell of garlic wafting from the kitchen, but I was so sick when we took these, I couldn’t smell a thing!
This little white dress transports me back to the cobblestone streets and old world charm of years past, with intricate lace on top and a crisp poplin skirt below. An open back balances the sweetness of the babydoll silhouette, showing a chic pop of skin for a more modern, sophisticated look. Bell sleeves add an of-the-moment flair with their charming, just-above-the-wrist length, providing the perfect peek at my watch and bracelet duo.
The straw hat and wicker bag work together for a pop of picnic-perfect charm. I raided my mother’s closet for this gorgeous Dolce & Gabbana purse! Though I did just treat myself to an amazing new picnic bag of my own, and I might just keep the trend going with this one, too. What can I say? When you find something that works, keep workin’ it! And I feel like I’ll find a lot of chances to use them in Florida. Now, my Italian dream just wouldn’t be complete without an appearance (last seen here) by these aptly named “Florentine” heels from DVF. Come si dice… perfetto! Ciao for now!
