Retro T-Shirt: Old Floridian Style
As somebody who was born and raised in Naples, Florida, I’ve seen my little beach town go through so many changes in my lifetime. In fact, with the addition of roads, shopping centers and many other developments, sometimes my town doesn’t feel so little anymore.
I’ve always felt close to my Floridian roots, and as a result I often find myself feeling nostalgic for “Old Florida.” It can be a little hard to explain if you’re not from here, but “Old Florida” had a quirky, retro vibe that was all it’s own.
A great example is this former Dairy Queen. It was built in 1963 and definitely embodies that “Old Florida” vibe. Appropriately, there are only two others like it in the world — both of them also in Florida. The design just captures something uniquely Floridian, and I can’t get enough of it.
Though I’ve loved this building since I came here as a little girl, not everyone in town feels the same way. Some people have called it an eyesore, and it’s fate was up in the air a few years ago after the Dairy Queen moved to a new location. Luckily the building was saved, and has reopened as the All American Shake Shop so you can still come here to enjoy a cold treat on a hot Florida day.
In the same vein, I love this retro t-shirt from Wildfox Couture because it reminds me of the “Old Florida” style that I’ve always been enamored with. Wildfox describes itself as “vintage-inspired clothing for the dreamer,” which made this retro t-shirt fit right in at the old Dairy Queen building. Styled with denim cutoffs, a retro pair of sneakers and a blush pink Chanel purse, this outfit is laidback and quirky (just like Florida!).
