Striped Shirt and High-Waisted Shorts: The Dock of the Bay
Outfit Details: Striped Shirt | J. Crew Skirty Short | Diane von Furstenberg Florentine Sandals (similar here & here) | Bracelets (anchor & pearl) | Lack of Color Hat (similar) | Ray-Ban Sunglasses
Boat neckline, boater hat, nautical stripes? I was definitely channeling my sailor style today. I count myself very lucky to live by the water in Naples, and ever since I moved back here three years ago, it’s been one of my resolutions to enjoy more of what this special seaside city has to offer.
I love the ocean, but the beach isn’t really my main scene. I prefer to appreciate it from the comfort of dry land, opting for boats and boardwalks over the sand and sunscreen. I actually earned my first level sailing certification a couple years ago, but I haven’t been out on the water since! Getting back out there is definitely one of my top priorities for 2017. In the meantime, I’m enjoying my bystander status, taking trips down to the Naples City Docks to admire all the beautiful sailboats. When I’m there, I always make it a point to stop by The Dock at Crayton Cove, a Naples institution in its own right. Serving seafarers and dock-sitters alike, The Dock is perched right on Naples Bay, where hungry mariners can sail right in by boat and indulge in some tasty waterfront dining. After enjoying a Pirate’s Punch at the bar, I settled on the patio to enjoy their delicious fried shrimp risotto. Yum! I would argue that a trip to Naples isn’t complete without a meal here.
I’ve been loving this straw, Lack of Color hat lately, (similar here) and what’s more appropriate for sailboat-gazing than a tried-and-true boater?! My classic Clubmasters are a must for the seaside sun, and try as they might, the uneven wooden piers are no match for the sturdy block heels on my beloved DVF Florentine sandals (similar here & here). The inverted box pleats on these high-waisted shorts play a little with the skort silhouette of years past, but the linen material and structured lines keep it modern. Nautical stripes play up the casual vibe on top, with ruffles on the sleeves adding a fun little frill to the classic lines. I couldn’t resist the charming anchor detail on this bracelet to finish off the nautical nature of my ensemble, plus a pretty pearl-tipped bangle to keep it company. Thanks to all the sunshine and salty air, I couldn’t have picked a more beautiful day for sittin’ on the dock of the bay.
